In 1996, a group of community members were concerned that Coleman needed more activities and services for youth. This committed group of volunteers formed the Coleman Community Network, offering before- and after-school care and youth athletic programs out of a church basement.
As the needs of the community evolved, the Coleman Community Network continued to expand. In 2008, the Coleman Community Network moved into the building that formerly housed the Coleman Middle School. At that time, Coleman Community Network changed its name to Railway Family Center to signify how the center would unite the community, as the railway once had.
Today, the Railway Family Center offers licensed before- and after-school care, childcare, preschool, family assistance pantry, youth and adult athletics, fitness classes, and fitness center. Railway Family Center also has youth and adult athletics and fitness classes at the Beaverton Activity Center.
